christmas

Luke did as most 11 month-olds do with Christmas and presents, he played with the wrapping and the boxes more than the toys. However, he seems to know that some of them belong to him and gives out an angry yell whenever Tim takes them from him. There is a lot of yelling going on around here.

oatmeal

Luke's favorite toy cabinet is my pantry. He likes the baking supplies, but the rule really is the larger the container, the better he likes it. Here, he's been into the oatmeal. He'll eat it dry but won't tolerate it cooked.

getting ready to walk

Luke's discovered the walker and is very proud of himself. We're very proud of him as well, including Timothy who shouts "Ook's walking! He getting bigger." whenever Luke pushes the walker around.

luke and elmo

When Timothy was given Elmo for his first birthday, he was afraid of him. It took him a long time before he would get near it when it was animated. Possibly because he's been around it from birth and possibly because he's a bit braver than Tim, Luke loves Elmo, especially when he is moving and talking.

tissue fun

Luke got hold of a box of tissue and removed most of the tissues before I discovered him. He's equally interested in the toilet paper and unfortunately, Tim enjoys helping him unroll it.

He has learned to put his hands up in the air when you ask him how big he is and answer SO BIG with your hands in the air. He likes doing it so much that he does it regularly when he's playing.

first halloween

the hay ride at the farm

Luke's first Halloween has been full of activities thanks to his older brother. We used the kangaroo costume that Colton gave to Tim for his first Halloween. It's like a plush toy and Luke's so cuddly in it. It's also very warm which is great for cool nights outside, but not so great for being inside.

Luke was happy to be carried around The Farm while Tim did his trick-or-treating. He was so cozy in his costume that he fell asleep in Paul's arms.

At Tim's school party, Luke contentedly watched the people. He saw several children his own age, but wasn't particularly impressed. He liked the toys.

Mama gutted the pumpkins while Luke and Tim watched. Luke was more willing to get his hands in it than his older brother who doesn't like dirty hands.

Luke rode in the stroller while his brother went through the neighborhood trick-or-treating. He even got some candy, which he gladly gave to Mama and Daddy.

up to standing

Luke pulled himself up to standing on his own for the first time yesterday. We didn't have the camera handy, so we missed this momentous event. This morning he's been busy trying out the new skill. Look out Tim, the train table is under attack!

CRAWLING!

I don't know if it's good news or bad news (it's good news, really), but Luke is officially crawling as of last night, 4 August 2010. He hasn't bothered with it this morning, but he'll remember how to do it soon enough. We've gated off all the stairways and warned Timothy that his toys are now at risk. I now have two very active fellows to chase. He's been on the verge ever since Jenny and Neville departed. We've tried tempting him with toys as we did with Timothy, but to no avail. Last night while we were having Breakfast For Dinner, he was on the floor next to me fussing. I sat down next to him and put my plate on the other side of me. He was up on all fours and on his way immediately. He didn't get to eat any of the spinach and feta omelet or the bacon even though he managed to get a handful of it.

six months

Jenny took these photos while she was here. He's only five months old in most of them. The biggest change in him from five months to six months is his ability to sit alone and nearly crawl.

He had his six-month check up and immunization shots last week. He's 28 inches long and weighs 17 pounds. He's gained 1.5 pounds and grown two inches in two months. This puts him at the 42nd percentile for weight and the 93rd for height. He still has chubby thighs, but he's looking long and thin now.

a room of his own

and of equal interest and importance, a room of our own again. We moved Luke's crib into his own room yesterday. He slept from 21:30-06:45. Yippee! Now if we can just get Timothy to do the same...

cereal

We introduced Luke to cereal early this month. His reaction on the first day was mixed and it's remained that way ever since. He doesn't like his high chair for more than about five minutes, so I usually feed him in his bouncy chair, which is interesting. I've found that giving him a bottle with cool water in it between bites helps get some food down.

bigger bed

I took these photos on the day (13 May) that we moved Luke from the travel crib which has a bassinet to the big crib, but I haven't managed to post them until today. He also graduated to the larger sleeping bag.

Here are some random photos from May.

At his four month check-up, he weighed in at 15 lbs, 8 oz and was 26 inches long. This puts him in the 86th percentile for height and the 64th percentile for weight. The 50th percentile is average.

Tim's bug rattle socks are back! Luke is enjoying them in this video while he works on sitting up.

bumbo

Luke is a long way from sitting on his own. The Bumbo is a great way to help build up the muscles he'll need for this. He tolerates it for about five minutes at a time. That's about all the time Tim will allow him to have it anyway.

thrilled, i'm sure

he loves his changing table

rolling over

11 weeks

On Monday, I put Luke down on his tummy, looked away, and looked back to find him on his back. I thought that maybe I had placed him crooked and he'd tipped because it seems too soon for him to be rolling around already. However, he did the same thing with my mother on Tuesday and again with me Tuesday evening, so it's official. He's rolling over from front to back. When he's on his back now, he pulls his legs up as high as he can and kicks which makes his whole body move. If he keeps that up, he'll be rolling from back to front before long.

because he can lift his head so high, it must pull him over onto his back. i've yet to see it happen.
